Mesh Coils vs Ceramic Coils

Mesh Coils vs Ceramic Coils

Technology in vapes has only improved. One thing in vapes that has always been enhanced is the heating element also known as the coil. When vaping first started the coils in tanks were just a coil made out of kanthal(a type of metal) and cotton. Later companies started coming out with all different types of coils, however the two types of coils that are still popular are ceramic and mesh coils. Which one of these coils will come out on top at the end of 2024?

Ceramic coils: The first company to release a ceramic coil is CCELL by Vaporesso, since the release to now there have been a lot of improvements on ceramic coils. For every improvement there are some issues along the way. When ceramic coils were first released they were very underwhelming, consumers ran into issues such as leaking and not enough vapor being produced compared to the standard coils on the market. Let's get into the pros and cons of a ceramic coil.

Pros -
Having been on the market for 9+ years, there have been many upgrades to ceramic coils. With Ceramic coils we will not get burnt hits due to there being no cotton and the coil being completely ceramic, also since there is no cotton the taste will be more pure since you will not have to vape through the initial cotton taste. There will be no spit back due to no cotton needing to be saturated. Leaking issues have also improved in tanks in fact some disposable brands are switching to ceramic coils.

Cons -
Although there have been a lot of improvements there may be some things a person may see as an issue. Ceramic coils can use more juice since there is more surface area being used from standard coils not including mesh coils. Also ceramic coils are not readily available for all the different types of tanks and disposable brands.

Mesh coils: Mesh coils when they were released gained major popularity due to the vape production and flavor provided by the mesh coils. The first successful brand to introduce the mesh coils into the market was Freemax. The combination of their tank design and coils instantly made the mesh coils gain popularity with most major brands transitioning to the mesh coil technology.

Pros -
Unlike standard coils that will heat up from the center to the outside, mesh coils will heat up evenly. This will allow for less burnt hits, nice vapor production and great flavor. Since the coil will heat up evenly the firing time is faster and the coil life will last longer than standard coils. Mesh coils will also use less power than standard coils due to the coil heating up evenly. These coils will also be more readily available in a wide variety of tanks and most disposables.

Cons -
Even though mesh coils have done well on the market does not mean they do not have flaws. Mesh coils are still prone to burn due to them using cotton still. Since the heating element burns evenly you will run through a lot of juice having to refill your tank more than a standard coil. This does mean if a disposable is using a mesh coil and is burning at a higher wattage it will shorten the lifespan of the disposable. Those who are not use to a larger vapor production can cough more than when they used standard coils. Also since the coil will not heat up as much as standard coils when the wattage is turned up due to the mesh coil heating up evenly.

Conclusion:
Both coil options are great choices no matter which one you pick, at this point it will just be a personal preference. Since the technology in vapes is always improving you will be able to see every brand taking their own iteration of each coil. Most disposables you see now will be using a mesh coil, however some brands will be transitioning to ceramic and will be worth trying. Ceramic in a disposable will overall elevate the flavor and provide a great vaping experience. Mesh coils are the standard in a disposable but it may be time for a change since now the only way to get better flavor from a disposable is adding a boost mode for the mesh coil, this will either raise the wattage or activate a second coil that will burn through juice faster and shorten the lifespan of the device.
